Description

Come join a growing organization in the sUAS drone industry! Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, has an immediate opening for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer. In this role, you will be responsible for creating clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for engineering, product, training, and customer support teams, and external customers. Your work will play a key role in enhancing our products' user experience and ensuring that technical information is accessible and comprehensible to a variety of stakeholders. Experience within the aerospace or drone industry is highly preferred.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to gather and understand technical information, ensuring documentation is technically accurate and aligned with engineering specifications.
  • Develop and finalize proposal responses for competitive tenders
  • Develop a wide range of customer-facing documents, including user manuals, update and/or installation guides, FAQs, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and online help content.
  • Ensure documentation is tailored to the audience, maintaining a balance between technical detail and clarity for end-users.
  • Participate in reviews and revisions of technical content to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with company standards.
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to gather input and feedback for continuous improvement of documentation.
  • Help improve documentation processes, tools, and templates to streamline workflow and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, standards, and best practices in technical writing, particularly within the aerospace or drone industry.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of technical writing experience, preferably with a background in aerospace, drones, or related industries.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with technical concepts and terminology related to aerospace, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or similar high-tech fields.
  • Documentation Skills: Proven ability to create both engineering and customer-facing documentation that is clear, concise, and user-friendly.
  • Collaboration: Experience working closely with engineers and technical teams to gather, refine, and document complex technical information.
  • Writing Skills: Strong command of grammar, syntax, and writing conventions, with an eye for detail and clarity.
  • Tools & Software: Experience with industry-standard tools such as MS Word, Adobe FrameMaker, Confluence, Git, or similar platforms. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to break down complex technical concepts and present them in a straightforward, comprehendible format for diverse audiences.
  • Education: A degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience is acceptable.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with documentation for aerospace or drone-related products, including hardware/software manuals, specifications, user guides and compliance documentation.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety requirements in the aerospace or UAV industries.
  • Experience working in agile development environments and using issue tracking or project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Arena).

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sitting & Computer Use: Must be able to sit for extended periods while working on a computer, reviewing technical materials, and developing documentation.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to read detailed technical specifications, diagrams, and digital screens for prolonged periods.
  • Communication: Must be able to communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats, including active collaboration with engineers, product teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Mobility: Ability to move within an office environment and occasionally visit engineering labs or test sites as needed.
  • Occasional Travel: May require occasional travel to attend meetings, training sessions, or industry events.
  • Lifting & Carrying: Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 15 lbs (e.g., documentation materials, laptops, or testing equipment).
