Technical Writer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Pioneering Evolution is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Technical Writer to support documentation efforts for Department of Defense (DoD) programs based in Panama City, Florida. The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining technical documentation, including user manuals, system guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and engineering reports. This role requires the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, developers, and program managers to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all written materials. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting government or defense-related projects and a strong understanding of technical documentation standards. This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for software systems, hardware components, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather technical information and translate it into clear, concise, and user-friendly content.
• Ensure documents adhere to DoD standards, formatting guidelines, and applicable style guides (e.g., MIL-STD, Microsoft Manual of Style).
• Edit, proofread, and standardize content created by technical staff for consistency, grammar, and technical accuracy.
• Organize and manage document repositories, version control, and content tracking.
• Support the preparation of technical reports, briefing materials, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with configuration management and publication of documents through digital platforms.
• Participate in project meetings to stay informed of system updates and documentation requirements.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience as a technical writer, preferably in a DoD or government contracting environment.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to technical detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Familiarity with documentation management tools and collaborative platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence).
• Ability to interpret technical information and present it in a clear, user-friendly format.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• U.S. citizenship is required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with DoD standards, MIL-STD documentation, or NAVAIR/NAVSEA templates.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with graphic editing tools (e.g., Visio, Snagit, Adobe Illustrator).
• Understanding of basic IT, cybersecurity, or engineering concepts.
• Experience developing online help content or interactive user guides.
