Description


Responsible for directing the activities of a staff that creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Supervises the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

As a manager in the technical writing division, you will lead a team that will design and write conceptually complex parts of new documentation. Recognize design dependencies with related product documentation and/or products and propose design changes or new designs. Provide subject matter guidance Company-wide to all levels.

Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of technical documentation. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 years of software engineering or related experience.

The Oracle Health Sciences User Assistance (UA) team accelerates the adoption of Oracle Health Sciences solutions that enable our users to deliver innovative therapies. Our content matters! We seek a curious and energetic technical documentation manager to lead the Health Sciences User Assistance team. As a leader, you will help plan, prioritize, and deliver content across multiple products. As a member of the broader User Experience Team, you will be a passionate advocate for our users. You will coach and mentor a diverse team of writers across multiple time zones and bring your project management and information architecture skills to a highly independent and driven team. You will lead with empathy and focus on building cross-functional relationships across Health Sciences and the broader Oracle community.  You will build a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.  In return, we will provide a supportive environment where you can build your career. Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and prioritize content releases, while identifying risks and mitigations.
  • Build a roadmap for delivering information in new and innovative ways
  • Provide technical writing and editing support as needed. Review content for quality and alignment with our standards.
  • Collaborate with team leads from learning (enablement) and design to define best practices and standards, and to eliminate redundancy. Get our customers the content they need in the best way possible whether that is documentation, learning, or within the product UI itself.
  • Mentor and coach writers, foster independent decision-making while always providing support and guidance.
  • Serve as the primary user assistance liaison for Health Sciences product teams. Advocate on behalf of our customers, while representing the team in leadership and cross-functional meetings.

Skills/Qualifications

  • 10+ years as a software technical writer, preferably supporting mixed audiences (end users to system administrators).
  • 5+ years managing teams, with a hunger to grow and learn more.
  • A proven track record of establishing a vision and then delivering on documentation innovations
  • Strong customer advocate mentality.
  • A proven track record of keeping a number of different trains running on time.
  • Strong team player with outstanding communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. We believe the HOW is as important as the WHAT.
  • Experience writing with XML and using structured writing. Experience working with Oxygen XML Author and SDL (or another content management system) a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly. A history of fearless hands-on investigation and product use.
